Tribute to Clifton Adolphus David (Browsy)

From The Guyana Chapter, the Board of Governors, THS, the Head teacher, Staff and Students of Tutorial High School.

On behalf of the above mentioned groups, sincerest condolences to the wife, Mary David, children, other family members and friends of our beloved Master teacher, Mr. Clifton Adolphus David, fondly known to all as “Browsy”. We who have had the privilege of tutelage from Mr. David, and I dare say all of us gather here to pay our final accolades are indeed saddened by this great loss.  He was a prodigious educator whose contribution to molding young minds spans for over two generations and can be described as second to none.

Mr. David was as committed to the intellectual and social development of his students, as he was to family life. Indeed he embraced our school’s motto: “We receive that we may give” with a dedication that led him to give selflessly of his energies and time to the development of the school’s community.  He exemplifies the ideal educator, a brilliant communicator, firm, and dignified in manner, and noted for keeping his students focus.

Clifton Adolphus, you represent a strong pillar of the academic foundation.  You have served our School and by extension this country with distinction, for this we say thank you. We do recognize that you were a man in the true sense of the word with some imperfections, but we give God thanks for being you.

As recent as last year many former colleagues, students and other associates had the opportunity of interacting with our beloved “Browsy”, at a special thanksgiving service hosted by the Guyana Chapter of the Tutorial High School Alumni Association, in collaboration with the Chapters in London, New York and Toronto, in honour of his 100th birthday. This was indeed a blessed moment for all of us who attended, and we will forever cherish that moment in our hearts.

The Tutorial High School community has lost a great father, an outstanding educational pioneer, and one who has championed the cause of every child that crossed his path. So long Mr. Clifton Adolphus David.  Thank you, sir, for your dedication, wisdom and contribution to our learning. Thank you for the matchless contribution you have made to the development of the Tutorial High School.

In closing allow me to quote from 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. In the future, there is reserve for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will give me on that day…. “
