TUTORIAL HIGH SCHOOL HEAD TEACHER’S REPORT -2010
Mr Chairman, Officials from the Ministry of Education, Distinguished Guest, Special Invitees, Parents, Teachers, Graduants, and well-wishers; it gives me great pleasure to present to you the school’s report for the school year 2009-2010.
This has been a very successful year for us. We have made many achievements in the areas of Discipline, Athletics, Academics and in the building of our relationship with our stakeholders.
Enrolment
We commenced the school year with 483 males and 613 females which give us a total of 1096 students. The staff consisted of 46 teachers. Among these we had 17 University Graduates; 21 Trained Teachers; and 8 Temporary Qualified Masters/Mistress; 4 of whom are at The Cyril Potter College of Education.
However, since that time we have lost two teachers: Ms. Monique Rockcliffe and Dusheila Sukhlall were transferred. So at present we are working with a staff of 44 teachers.
Discipline
In the area of discipline this has been a very successful year for us for three main reasons:
1. Because of the strategies and policies of the Ministry of Education
2. Because of the two Counsellors who are present in our school: Ms. Caldeira and Ms. Crawford please stand and take a bow
3. And last but definitely not least because of the strategies employed by the Administrative staff of the school
We have since implemented the Gate Pass which has kept our students off the road and out of trouble. We have also re-done our rule book and our strategy for maintaining discipline. Furthermore, our Prefect System has been re-organised and these have contributed to the improvement of discipline in our school.
Athletics and Sports
As usual, the students of Tutorial excelled in the areas of Athletics and Sports. At our Inter- House competition Jevina Straker is our champion girl for this year and Dellon DeAbreu is our champion boy. The winning House was E House and 17 students are representing Tutorial at Nationals.
In cricket Tutorial won all three games played against North Georgetown Secondary, Campbellville Secondary and St. Joseph High.
At Mashramani Tutorial competed in 6 categories. We obtained 4 firsts, 1 second and 1 third.

Relationships
I am pleased to report that our P.T.A has been resuscitated and is in complete control of the finances of the school. Our treasurer Mr. Dale Seabra is working daily with us to keep the wheel well oiled.
Since the year begun we have had a fair. We also have an Ice-cream day plan along with many more fund-raising activities.
Our relationship with our Alumni has grown as you will notice in the prizes given to the students later on in this programme. 19 prizes in the form of financial donation were given by the Toronto, US and the Guyana Chapters.
The Joseph Castello Memorial Fund also made financial gifts to students who have performed well.
We received backpacks filled with materials for the maintaining of students’ personal hygiene from the Canadian Chapter. These packs were given to needy students of our school. Furthermore, a set of Mathematics text were donated to the school by the New York Chapter and a pallet of book were donated by the UK chapter also the school received a donation of a 21 inch television set from the Guyana Revinue Authority.
Finally we have also developed a new relationship with Child Link Incorporated. They have been working with our students and parents in an attempt to assist in the way parents and children relate to each other. They have also trained some of our students to be mentors and Youth Advocates.
Child Link Incorporated has also executed an essay and art competition among the schools in which they are working.
In closing A Mentoring Programme was also launched at Tutorial High School by the Ministry of Education which involves teachers and students from this and other schools.
Thank you
Mr Chairman, I would like to take this opportunity to extend gratitude to the Ministry of Education for responding to the requests of this school in a timely manner. Gratitude is also extended to the Board of Governors of this school who is always very supportive in the growth and development of the teachers and students of Tutorial High.
Special thanks to all those stakeholders who have the vested interest of Tutorial High at heart and as such made timely donations to the benefit of school.
Last but by no means least, I want to say heart felt thank you to all my Teachers who have worked diligently to educate our children and have also lent sterling support to me in times of need.
